How to Make Your Bathroom Feel Like a Spa

Sep 5

When I designed my bathroom, I had simple beauty in mind. A place that would inspire peace and calm, and bring some organic luxuries into my daily routine. I chose a blush pink wall color that I had custom mixed based on an envelope I had saved. I’ve also created a spa-like bathroom to not only be beautiful to step into for myself but also for my daughters. If you’re feeling like you need a refresh and some simple luxury with the new season upon us, here’s some small changes that can make a big difference.

Luxurious textiles. Put special towels high on the list of essentials. It is so comforting to wrap yourself up in a plush Turkish towel after a calming bath. Getting a matching set will streamline everything and bring even more serenity to the space.

There are so many to choose from. You can find this neutral gray style on Goop.com.

Favorite scent. If you love essential oils, use a diffuser or find a luxuriously scented candle that’s all natural. Bring your favorite scent into the space, so the moment you step in, you can enjoy it. One of my very favorite scents is lavender – it’s calming, healing, and perfectly balanced.

The Interior Candle in Fig Leaf / Olive Branch is my favorite candle right now.

The Muji Infuser is a simple and pretty design, and the best part is it doesn’t break and it lasts longer than any diffuser I’ve tried.

Soft loungewear. Owning a soft robe and a pair of slippers can transform your experience at home. We all love something cozy we can climb into after a long day or warm bath in the cooler months.

For some of the coziest slippers in the world, visit Shepherd of Sweden and pair them with a luxuriously soft robe from Coyuchi, with organic linen herringbone gauze on the outside and undyed, highly absorbent micro-loop terry inside.

Upgrade your beauty routine. Just making a simple change to start, maybe getting an organic body wash with the scent you love, will create a ripple effect in the rest of your beauty routine. Here are some of my beauty favorites that I’ll also be transitioning into the Fall season.

Tata Harper’s Regenerating Cleanser for gentle exfoliation, with the facial cleansing brush from Naturopathica.

My favorite scented oil, Tata Harper’s Irritability Treatment. It also calms nerves.

Active Botanical Serum and Active Treatment Essence by Vintner’s Daughter for breakthrough skincare made with dozens of botanicals that reverse and prevent aging — the serum literally tones down my freckles and sunspots.

For a healing body moisturizer St. John’s Wort Hand and Body oil by La Bruna Skincare.

For the bath, I love an organic loofah brush and Dr. Singha’s Mustard Seed Powder.

Invest in a brush you love. If you’re like me, you may forget to brush your hair. It’s like a lost art in our busy modern age. I think we should bring it back. Brushing your hair daily with a really good brush is not only relaxing, but it’s highly beneficial for the scalp which will then create a healthier, shinier mane.

Go for the classic handmade Mason Pierson (it will last a lifetime, so the investment is worth it). Or you can use the Aveda Wooden Paddle Brush recommended by hairstylist Tommy Bucket at Serge Normant in New York City, designed for a scalp massage as you brush your hair.
