My Signature Staircase Design

Aug 3
One of my favorite projects when I renovated my home, was doing the dreamy, white staircase. It brought light to a dark space in the most incredible way – and that is my specialty. When natural light opens up what was once a dark space, it’s an uplifting surprise.
It’s been wonderful to see how interior designer, Sue De Chiara, transformed her beach house with the white staircase and lucite railing. Check out the before and after pictures below.

Some before scenes of my staircase here below. You’ll see the blue paint coming through in the progress of the non-white paint.

When I designed the staircase, I chose paint instead of a rug – so I would be able to easily wipe the stairs clean and I love being barefoot in the house, so the painted runner feels more natural.

The finish is a gloss by Fine Paints of Europe, verses other finishes that would wear poorly over time. Everyone thinks it’s white paint, but it’s a gray blue color I love.

The lucite handrail, unlacquered brass details and tempered glass give it a light and airy feel that is still classic and sophisticated.
