Here are a few of my favorite things in the spirit of winter that inspire and add warmth.
This Center hallway leads from the front of the beach house to the back of the house overseeing the Long Island sound. It was important to create curiosity while walking through this space. Using contrast in paint colors from Farrow and Ball throughout the trim and walls was the first step. Cornforth White *228 and Pointing *2003 helped create the perfect mix.
Janeeka Peerna’s art holds strong in its shape and simplicity accenting the barrel trimmed ceiling, anchored by the concrete console in a natural white with brass details. Dublin Durller-Wilson’s art can be viewed as your walking by or if your seated in the living room across the way.
-1 Electric Diffuser by Diptyque
Made out of porcelain and brass, this is my favorite way to scent a room because of the interchangeable cartridges that you can buy from their collection. The rose is my favorite scent. It has a very clean note to it and I use it every morning to start my day.
A New York based artist who’s artwork is displayed in numerous private collections throughout the US and Europe. When I see Jaanika’s work I can feel the movement thats created. She herself explains “…I make drawings, videos and installations… I am a vessel gathering subtle and rapturous processes in nature, using the experiences and impulses to make my work”. In this space Jaanikas’s artwork brings that very sense of movement and vibrancy within the neutral palette of the room.
-3 Tibet Lamb Coat by Yves Solomon
Famous for their Army parka, Yves Solomon is a premier high quality coat designer. Using a beautiful array of furs for their men’s, woman’s and accessories collections, they are an amazing indulgence when looking for that super warm classic coat.
-4 Carlos bag by Jerome Dreyfuss
A one time apprentice under John Galliano, Jerome Dreyfuss designs such beautiful handbags that have a practicality and playfulness about all of them. The Carlos bag is one of the signature bags on this line. Made from goatskin this handbag with streamlined design and sliding handles is the perfect unstructured classic!
-5 Ulla Johnson top.
Ulla Johnson, a New York native founded her line in 2000. She bases her collections on the “foundation of natural fibers, beautiful finishing and ease of fit and form”. I love how Ulla uses her textiles to create femininity and have an authentic artisanal feel. This Adrienne shirt is a beautiful silk blouse that can be worn with jeans or a skirt depending on your mood.
-6 Dublin Durller-Wilson Artwork
Dublin’s art is always ethereal and light. I love the way she mixes her color palette to evoke a sense of calm and beauty. Commissioned art is her specialty. Look her up!
-7 Jeweler by Raquel Garcia Design
I designed these 18kt rose gold charms with the intention of how powerful the spoken word can be. Truth , knowledge, love ,beauty , unity …a handful of words that I try to live by and see the world through. This makes the perfect gift for the woman that has it all .
-8 Dreaming in Cuban by Christina Garcia
The 25th Anniversary Edition will be released in March 2017.
Written by my first cousin, this novel details the stories of a fictional families experience through three generations of exile, culture and divisiveness in Cuban politics. Described as “Brilliant . . . With tremendous skill, passion and humor, García just may have written the definitive story of Cuban exiles and some of those they left behind.” A beautiful novel that is a classic and a must read especially now that Castro has passed.
